Richard Branson’s Extreme Tech Challenge finalists have been named!

Five of the top 25 participants, HobbyDB, Kickfurther, MassRoots, Sphero and Revolar, are Colorado tech companies.

The competition offers winners an opportunity to travel to Richard Branson’s private island, Necker Island. To enter, contestants volunteer to pitch live at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas. The top three companies at that show go to Branson’s island for lots of fun – and the chance to leave with quite a bit of additional infrastructure and investment.

Sphero, a top 25 finalist and GoSpotCheck customer, recently made a splash in the news. Sphero executives participated in a Disney accelerator program where they met Bob Iger, Disney’s chief executive. Together, the group designed and created a miniature form of BB-8 – a robot appearing in the upcoming film Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens.

Denver-based company Revolar is a graduate of the TechStars program just like GoSpotCheck. Both GoSpotCheck and Revolar understand the importance of real-time data when conveying accurate information. In the case of Revolar, real-time data is directly related to saving lives. Revolar created a small, wearable, personal safety device to send alerts in the case of an emergency. Location capabilities and weatherproofing make Revolar an asset in any situation.

Andrea Perdomo, COO and co-founder of Revolar, is hopeful about the upcoming results of the Extreme Tech Challenge.

“We are honored to have made it this far!” Perdomo said.

“There is so much potential for innovative technology and resourceful thinking in this world, and we are proud to be mentioned alongside the other semi-finalists.”

“The use of real-time data makes Revolar an incredible empowerment tool. Even if we don’t win, we are so excited about the future.”
